Reflection on Games

Today I have seen many games from many people, some games only one person working on them while others had over 12 people. There are some notable games I really enjoyed from what I've seen.  Firstly there is The Alien twine game, I really liked how it was a simple text based game but what really made it for me was the interesting background images used, the fact you have multiple paths, you can choose your own name and the writing was rather witty and lighthearted. This gave the game a personal experience and also something fun, the customisable name can lead to some funny moments. The fact it was made from scratch really added to it as it shows there was effort and care behind it. There was another twine game based in a coffee shop that was rather fun. Like the alien twine game it has funny and interesting writing that keeps you engaged and the multiple paths add more depth. While its only sexy based, you feel like you're experiencing the events he barista goes through.

MD2 Beta

This week is about the beta for our game and the state it is in and also what worked and what didn't. This week we had to present our games, talk about what they do and show them off to our peers. Then we'd receive feedback for the games and any criticism we'd need going forward to make improvements, both from our lecturer and peers. The presentation was fine, we had some elements locked down and were fine but we could've showcase more of the game and had more in it in some area. I was involved in asset management, I had to collect interior assets for some of the interior sections of the game like the GPO, offices, and a hospital. I collected these through unity asset store and find mostly free assets as we don't really have a substantial budget, although I did find one asset that needed pay. Project Research: Interior assets

This week, my role in asset collection was slightly changed. My role in the team is to find and collect any interior assets for the game. This could range from chairs to hospital and office equipment, anything that could suit the early 20th century setting of the game and locations like the GPO. I searched through Unity, looking for any assets I could use. Most of them are free but only one requires payment but it only costs €4.47, so it's not too expensive. From the previous blog post I did showing my research, I found a list of assets that ranged from free to pay. I looked through the list and another one to find any interior assets we could use and found a good selection from both. Final GDD

In this blog post, I will be discussing my role within the 19Sixteen Group and what I have contributed. On Wednesday, the group had a meeting where we discussed different things about the project and how we would approach them. Many roles were changed, especially mine. My role was changed from working on the GDA to asset collection. Due to the change in roles, I now have two new team members who I will be working with on asset collection and management. The main role I'll be playing is to find assets that will help us develop the game and build the level which is set in Dublin during the 1916 Easter Rising. For the assets, we had to make sure many of the props, buildings, weapons and soldiers were accurate to the period and suited the setting. Finding assets that would suit the time period and be accurate to 20th Century Architecture, World War 1 uniforms and weaponry were quite limited and the very few assets we found in relation to weaponry were actually free and some costed mo

Game Design Document

I am part of the Chris Carneys and James Reynolds team for the game, the game is a 3D experience of 1916 Rising. We are going to recreate Dublin from references. Description of the Game: "You play as Micahel “Foggy” Fogarty, a 16-year-old boy who after witnessing the murder of his father joins the Irish Republican Brotherhood. Foggy travels with his division to Dublin, Easter weekend in 1916 to take part in the Rising and is tasked with passing messages from the GPO to other key locations the IRB and Civilian Army holds." My role in the production of this game is GDA Creator, I work with the writer and team leader to create a GDA to help out other teams and to help the writer sort out the story, names and characters. Final Draft

Video Games, like any other medium such as Literature, Filme and Music. Have many kinds of Genre unique to that said medium. With video games, there are genres that it shares with other mediums, such as Horror. Though it has many that are unique to the medium as they can make the experience unique and different. It can enhance the story it tells, make us feel and experience different emotions and scenarios. Genres such as Action Adventure games can give bombastic and sprawling epics with enriched worlds and adventures the player can embark. Whether it's exploring a futuristic wasteland, ancient ruins or medieval world. Role-playing and First person games can help the user project themselves onto the character, help leave their mark on the game and experience the game and story unfold like they are there.  In this literature review, the goal is for us to talk about these genres, their rising popularity and their evolution and impact they have in the medium of video games.  Mare

Multimedia Project Research

Artwork of the 1916 rising found online as a visual reference to where it took place. This semester, I will be joining a big group to help create a game. The group contains 12 people and one of the key members is Chris Carney. The groups idea for the project is an open world 3-D game that's set during the 1916 Easter rising, the player characters is someone who has to deliver messages to and from key locations of the Rising and between key members of it too. So obviously this project will have a more historical slant to it. As there is sizable amount of people in the group,  the jobs given will have specific roles. My rile in the groups is that I'm part of the team for assets and level building which is great because when I was creating my game for last semester, I enjoyed piecing together the level and creating it. I do struggle with coding on unity and this role does mean I wont mess that area up for the group but I will try to learn it though. I cant wait to start
